Rancho San Diego resident Diane Nelson, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in June 2009, will be among 3,500 walkers participating at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s San Diego County Credit Union Walk MS, a three-mile fundraising fun walk along scenic San Diego Bay starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, at NTC Park at Liberty Station in Point Loma. Nelson’s 20-member walk team, called “Team Diane,” will be dressed as clowns at Walk MS. Nelson is looking for contributions and people to join her team. She can be reached at www.MSWalk.com, or www.TeamDiane.org.
The National MS Society will host two San Diego County Credit Union Walk MS fundraising events in April. The first Walk MS will be held on Sunday, April 22, at the Legoland California theme park in Carlsbad, and a second Walk MS will be held on Saturday, April 28, at NTC Park. For the 11th consecutive year, San Diego County Credit, San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, will return as title sponsor of both Walk MS events. Admission to attend Walk MS is free. There is no cost to be a walker. Registration information is available at www.MSWalk.com.
Now in its 22nd year in San Diego, Walk MS is known for drawing a large number of teams representing businesses, neighborhoods, clubs, community groups, churches and family members and friends of a person with MS. Many teams come up with a team name and outfit their members with costumes, including T-shirts, hats or balloons. All it takes is four or more people to form a team. Free snacks and beverages will be provided to walkers, plus live music and a festive finish line celebration. Walkers will have the opportunity to earn prizes, including t-shirts, movie tickets and gift cards, based on the amount of donations they collect.
