Grossmont College to celebrate its 50th anniversary with fundraising celebration on Saturday, Oct. 22

June 17, 2024 – Our town took a magical trip down memory lane today. The Model T Ford Club of America rolled into town for their 2024 National Tour.

Dozens of these magnificent Model T’s lined our streets. It felt like stepping back in time.

The visitors took a stroll through our town’s rich history, from the old Lakeside Inn, the Auto Speedway route, made famous by racing legend Barney Oldfield, to our charming historic buildings and homes.

The Lakeside Historical Society opened their doors, welcoming everyone to explore the chapel, museum, Gift Shop, and the Speedway monument. It was a little slice of the past brought back to life.

Their visit was short, but the memories will last a lifetime. A huge thank you to the Model T Ford Club of America for stopping by and making the day in our hometown so special.

Grossmont College will host a 50th anniversary fundraising celebration starting at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the college’s Health and Sciences Complex, the newest building on the El Cajon campus. The public is invited to attend.  Tickets are priced at $175 per person. Proceeds from the silent and live auction will benefit the Grossmont College Griffin and Dreamkeepers Funds through the Foundation for Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges, the recently formed fundraising organization that supports students and educational programs at Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges.

“Fifty and Fantabulous” is the theme of the fundraising celebration. Guests are encouraged to dress in the attire they may have worn as a college student, whether it’s the peace beads of the 1960s or the acid-washed jeans of the 1980s. The event will be mostly held outdoors, so dress accordingly. A brief program will begin at 7:15 p.m., followed by a live auction and “raise the paddle” activities. Dessert and coffee service is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

Hors d’oeuvres and other food samples will be available at various food stations, as well as desserts. Also located in different areas of the two-story Health and Sciences Complex will be displays of photographs, memorabilia and videos chronicling the college’s 50-year history, as well as performances from students, including guitar players, dancers and Gospel Choir singers. Guests will be able to enjoy listening to their favorite pop tunes heard during the previous five decades. The event is part of a year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Grossmont College, which began classes in 1961. Tickets can be purchased online at  or by calling (619) 644-7109. Sponsorship information also is available at this website. A map and driving directions to the campus located at 8800 Grossmont College Dr., El Cajon are at
