Grossmont Hospital Gala to feature ballroom dancing competition

by Rick Griffin

Alpine resident and Padres broadcaster and former pitcher Mark Grant will judge performances by budding ballroom dancers as part of the entertainment at the Grossmont Hospital Foundation Gala starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. Grant will exchange commentary with 10News anchor Kimberly Hunt and Dave Scott, KUSI-NEWS broadcast meteorologist and feature reporter at the fundraiser. The Grossmont Hospital Foundation Gala, now in its 26th year, generates funds for services and programs at Sharp Grossmont Hospital (SGH). Proceeds from this year’s event will support a new, state-of-the-art heart and vascular center at the hospital.

“Over the past 26 years, the Gala has raised more that $3 million for our hospital,” said Michele Tarbet, SGH senior vice president and CEO. “We would not be able to offer the community our breadth of advanced technologies and services, such as robotic surgery, women’s services, cancer center and emergency and critical care, without the Foundation and the support it receives from our physicians, staff, community, and civic leaders.” Among the featured dancers scheduled to perform choreographed ballroom dance routines: Peter Hanson, M.D., orthopedic surgeon and SGH board chair; Colleen Murphy, R.N., SGH administrative liaison; and, Mary England, CEO, La Mesa Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Pro Tem, City of Lemon Grove. Tickets begin at $275 per person. For more Gala information and registration, call Bill Navrides at (619) 740-4316 or email: bill.navrides@sharp.com.
