Former California Assemblyman Jay La Suer has been appointed to serve on the Grossmont Hospital Corporation (GHC) board of directors. La Suer will serve as the designee of Betty Stieringer, who was recently elected to the board of the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD). Each of the five GHD board members has a seat on the GHC board and can either serve or select a designee to serve in their place. Stieringer, a registered nurse and resident of La Mesa, was elected to the GHD board in November 2012, finishing first in a field of nine candidates.
La Suer, a La Mesa resident, served for six years in the California Assembly between 2000 and 2006. The Republican represented the 77th District, which included the East County cities of El Cajon, La Mesa, Santee and unincorporated areas of the East County. He also served for 10 years from 1990 to 2000 on the La Mesa City Council, including as vice mayor. He also served for 25 years with the County of San Diego Sheriff’s Dept., retiring as undersheriff.
