Sycuan Casino is helping advertising industry workers facing life crises

Sycuan Casino in El Cajon has agreed to serve as presenting sponsor of the 12th annual San Diego Advertising Fund for Emergencies (SAFE) fundraiser and party from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, at the Ivy Rooftop Lounge atop the Andaz San Diego, 600 “F” St., in the Gaslamp District in Downtown San Diego.
SAFE is a volunteer, non-profit organization (501c3) that provides confidential financial assistance to local advertising and marketing professionals and their families facing a life crisis emergency. The fundraiser will feature food, networking, entertainment and a silent auction to benefit SAFE grant recipients. The annual SAFE party is the non-profit organization’s major fundraiser of the year. Since its founding in 2000, SAFE has approved grants exceeding $400,000, including $33,498 in 2010, $36,626 in 2011 and $18,817 in 2012. According to Mary Sullivan, 2012-2013 SAFE board president, grants have been used over the years to help pay living expenses for families facing financial hardship due to a variety of life crisis situations. Some grants have helped pay for medicine, insurance, utilities, food, gasoline and rent during employment interruption resulting from critical illness, accident or injury. Recipients of grants remain anonymous.
SAFE ( is supported by volunteers representing ad agencies, newspapers, radio, TV and cable stations, news websites, printers, graphic designers, event planners, research companies and public relations firms. Supporting organizations include the San Diego Advertising Club, American Institute of Graphic Arts, American Marketing Association, Printing Industries Association of San Diego, San Diego Media Communications Association, Public Relations Society of America, San Diego Direct Marketing Association and San Diego Radio Broadcasters Association.
