Sycuan Casino is sponsor of Better Business Bureau golf tournament

June 17, 2024 – Our town took a magical trip down memory lane today. The Model T Ford Club of America rolled into town for their 2024 National Tour.

Dozens of these magnificent Model T’s lined our streets. It felt like stepping back in time.

The visitors took a stroll through our town’s rich history, from the old Lakeside Inn, the Auto Speedway route, made famous by racing legend Barney Oldfield, to our charming historic buildings and homes.

The Lakeside Historical Society opened their doors, welcoming everyone to explore the chapel, museum, Gift Shop, and the Speedway monument. It was a little slice of the past brought back to life.

Their visit was short, but the memories will last a lifetime. A huge thank you to the Model T Ford Club of America for stopping by and making the day in our hometown so special.

Sycuan Casino in El Cajon is among the sponsors of the San Diego Better Business Bureau’s (BBB) 16th annual Gerry Wilson Golf Classic, a fund-raising golf tournament staring at noon on Wednesday, June 6, at the La Costa Golf Resort & Spa in Carlsbad. The tournament will benefit the BBB Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that supports the free services provided to consumers by the BBB.

Donation to play golf is $365 per player, which includes a pair of custom-fitted golf shoes or golf sunglasses, along with green fees, cart, raffle tickets, food and beverages on the course, prizes, player awards, lunch and after-golf awards dinner. In addition to Sycuan Casino, other sponsors include Jack in the Box, McKenna Long & Aldridge, Alfac, Barney & Barney, Mor Furniture for Less and Walter Andersen Nursery. For more event information, contact the BBB’s Andy Ramos at (858) 637-6199, or via e-mail at

The tournament is named in honor of the late Gerry Wilson, a former U-T San Diego advertising director who served as the BBB’s president/CEO from January 1996 to March 2004. This year’s tournament also will feature the 8th annual “wacky slacks contest” in honor of Wilson, who was known for arriving at the first tee wearing outrageous and multicolored trousers. The golfer wearing the most ridiculous looking pants will win a prize, the BBB said.
