Dianne Jacob to honor realtors for completing home makeover in La Mesa

June 17, 2024 – Our town took a magical trip down memory lane today. The Model T Ford Club of America rolled into town for their 2024 National Tour.

Dozens of these magnificent Model T’s lined our streets. It felt like stepping back in time.

The visitors took a stroll through our town’s rich history, from the old Lakeside Inn, the Auto Speedway route, made famous by racing legend Barney Oldfield, to our charming historic buildings and homes.

The Lakeside Historical Society opened their doors, welcoming everyone to explore the chapel, museum, Gift Shop, and the Speedway monument. It was a little slice of the past brought back to life.

Their visit was short, but the memories will last a lifetime. A huge thank you to the Model T Ford Club of America for stopping by and making the day in our hometown so special.

The Pacific Southwest Association of REALTORS® (PSAR), a San Diego-area trade group for realtors, recently completed a home makeover beautification project for a disabled and unemployed La Mesa homeowner down on his luck. The realtors’ efforts will be recognized with a proclamation to PSAR from the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to be presented by Supervisor Dianne Jacob at the July 30 board meeting.
A small army of more than 100 PSAR members and supporters, including contractors and other building trade specialists, volunteered their labor over several weekends at a home on Troy Lane that was previously cited for housing code violations, said Jeff Campbell, 2013 PSAR president. “Our members are involved in supporting the community in many ways, and this extreme makeover of this home in La Mesa is one of the ways we are giving back to the communities we serve,” said Campbell.
The improvements included a new roof, landscape renovation and general clean-up. Donated construction materials included plywood, roofing, paint and plants, said Carey Guthrie, chair of Helping Hands 4 Homes, a committee of PSAR members who assist less-fortunate homeowners facing hardships and in need of new hope.
According to Guthrie, among the companies providing materials or labor to PSAR for this project: San Diego Quality Renovations, Louis A. Scheuer Roofing Specialist, California Coastal Painting, Dunn-Edwards, Dixieline Lumber & Home Centers, La Mesa Lumber, The Home Depot, Home Turf San Diego, Anthony’s Bee Removal Co., Movement Mortgage, Sam Calvano Home Loans, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Finch Realty & Moving, Quality Escrow, Inc., Eaton Escrow, Elite Escrow, Farmers Insurance Group, First American Title, Corinthian Title, Orange Coast Title, Fidelity National Home Warranty, First American Home Warranty, Home Turf San Diego, AmeriFirst Financial Inc., Termite Advisors, Windermere Real Estate SoCal, Jeff Campbell & Associates, California Sign and Marketing, PSAR Young Professionals Network, Christy’s Golden Doodles, Edco Disposal Corp. and RCP Block and Brick.
