East County Business News – 40 Days of Hope for 2nd Street plans celebration on Aug. 4

June 17, 2024 – Our town took a magical trip down memory lane today. The Model T Ford Club of America rolled into town for their 2024 National Tour.

Dozens of these magnificent Model T’s lined our streets. It felt like stepping back in time.

The visitors took a stroll through our town’s rich history, from the old Lakeside Inn, the Auto Speedway route, made famous by racing legend Barney Oldfield, to our charming historic buildings and homes.

The Lakeside Historical Society opened their doors, welcoming everyone to explore the chapel, museum, Gift Shop, and the Speedway monument. It was a little slice of the past brought back to life.

Their visit was short, but the memories will last a lifetime. A huge thank you to the Model T Ford Club of America for stopping by and making the day in our hometown so special.

In an effort to reduce homelessness that affects businesses located along Second Street in El Cajon, a group of East County business professionals and community leaders have organized “40 Days of Hope for 2nd Street,” a campaign focusing on prayer by small groups and local churches. The campaign, which began in June, has included a number of activities, including: Members from Foothills Christian Church, Skyline Community Church, Shadow Mountain Community Church and the Rock Church have selected one day to pray for 2nd Street so that all 40 days are covered in prayer; Small groups and individuals have committed one hour during the 40 days to visit 2nd Street to walk along the street praying for the businesses and people; East County residents have adopted a business on 2nd Street and prayed for that business to prosper. This year’s campaign will conclude with a citywide celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, at Prescott Promenade on East Main St. in El Cajon. The celebration will feature testimonies from pastors, 2nd Street business owners and prayer walkers, along with a multi-congregational worship team, the Iglesia Skyline bilingual worship team and soloist Trevor Davis. Speakers will include El Cajon Mayor Pro Tem Bill Wells and Pastor Poncho Murguia. Attendees are encouraged to bring your own folding chair.
