Health care library’s `Wellness Wednesday’ meeting will discuss Cal Medi-Connect on April 22

June 17, 2024 – Our town took a magical trip down memory lane today. The Model T Ford Club of America rolled into town for their 2024 National Tour.

Dozens of these magnificent Model T’s lined our streets. It felt like stepping back in time.

The visitors took a stroll through our town’s rich history, from the old Lakeside Inn, the Auto Speedway route, made famous by racing legend Barney Oldfield, to our charming historic buildings and homes.

The Lakeside Historical Society opened their doors, welcoming everyone to explore the chapel, museum, Gift Shop, and the Speedway monument. It was a little slice of the past brought back to life.

Their visit was short, but the memories will last a lifetime. A huge thank you to the Model T Ford Club of America for stopping by and making the day in our hometown so special.

GHD_Ext4The Grossmont Healthcare District’s Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, will host a free program on Cal MediConnect, a new healthcare plan for some Californians, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22. The program is part of the library’s “Wellness Wednesday” series, normally held on the fourth Wednesday of the month. The program on MediConnect will help explain the program for yourself or a loved one.

The Coordinated Care Initiative (CCI) is a step toward transforming California’s Medi-Cal care delivery system to better serve the state’s low-income seniors and persons with disabilities. Under the CCI, Cal MediConnect is for those who have both Medicare and Medi-Cal, also known as Medi/Medi or dual eligibles. The voluntary program offers easier access and better coordinated care services for medical needs and social services under one plan. The benefits include additional vision and transportation services, as well as home- and community-based services.

Speaking at the Herrick Library will be Kim Huynh of Harbage Consulting and outreach coordinator for the County of San Diego in conjunction with the California Department of Health Care Services.

The Herrick Library, which opened in 2002, is a consumer health public library specializing in health research information, accessible both on-site and via the Internet. The library is operated by the Grossmont Healthcare District, a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County.
