The World of Work in the Cajon Valley School District gives students the opportunity to explore jobs that they might not otherwise know exist. Parents of students in the district are a great resource for teachers to draw from when looking for different jobs to explore.
Jemima Dutra is the manager of the Lambs Players Theater costume shop in San Diego, CA. Jemima participated in a live virtual field trip where students visited her world of work via Nepris live chat technology.
Here’s what Jemima had to say about her experience:
Jemima Dutra:
How can a child aspire to a job that they don’t know exists?
So what I do, I work for Lambs Players Theater in the costume shop and I am the shop manager. I also sew and make patterns. We also do the maintenance on the shows so kind of do a little bit of everything, but I love it.
It is pretty exciting getting to do a virtual field trip with the students at Avocado Elementary, and at all of the other schools. Getting to share my experiences and what I do was a lot of fun. I think it’s important that students get to see a wide variety of different types of occupations that the world has to offer.
We have so many wonderful, talented parents in different jobs throughout our school district that it would be so wonderful if everybody could share how much they love their job with all of our students. You could do a virtual tour like what I did or you could even go straight to the classroom and talk to the kids one on one about what you do. You’ll be amazed at how receptive our students are and how excited they get, just hearing about all the different jobs.
Thinking that I got to inspire at least one student is a really rewarding feeling and just knowing that maybe someday their dreams can come true if they work hard is really great to think about.
You gotta do this! It’s going to be so much fun and rewarding for you.
To get started, just contact your child’s principal. It’s that easy. Cajon Valley students are just waiting to see your world of work.
