Montgomery Middle School Recognizes Student Who are Reflective and Risk Takers at Awards Assembly

Montgomery Middle School, in the Cajon Valley Union School District, held an awards ceremony for sixth grade students recognized as leaders and risk takers.

Principal Debbie Long encouraged students to be risk takers in the classroom by trying things they may find difficult, and persevering. She explained that being reflective means thinking before acting. It also means be more empathetic of others.

Mrs. Long:
So this morning we had one of our grade level Roadrunner rallies. Every month, each grade level gets together in the gym and we recognize our students who have demonstrated good character. The parents are invited, they get to come and watch your student receive the award. And it’s a great opportunity for their peers to go and cheer them on.

Bree:
This assembly was all about giving the awards to people who were risk takers and we had a fun game at the end.

Mrs. Long:
So I’m really proud of all the students who have been part of this process. They’ve been part of our leadership teams. It’s a great opportunity for them to come and really show that they are great members of our community and be recognized. We have amazing students here at Montgomery. And I’m really proud of my teachers and my staff.

Bree:
All the teachers here are really kind to us. They’re always trying to help out.

Mrs. Long:
This was all of their idea.

Bree:
Belong, Engage, Empathy and Pride
